Terms of Service for Excommunicado Discord Bot Effective Date: June 28, 2026 Last Updated: June 28, 2026
- Agreement to Terms By inviting, using, or interacting with the Excommunicado Discord bot (the "Bot"), you ("User", "you", or "your") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not invite or use the Bot and remove it from your server immediately. These Terms form a binding legal agreement between you and the Bot owner/developer ("we", "us", or "our").
- Description of the Service Excommunicado is a moderation bot designed to combat channel flooding and spam in Discord servers. It uses stealth isolation (Excommunication / "XCOM") to silently move offending users' messages into a hidden staff-accessible lounge (xcom-lounge) while they continue to see the server normally. Features include automatic flood detection, community voting, keyword scoring, absolution points, and related moderation tools. The Bot does not ban or kick users. All actions are reversible and aim to preserve community retention.
- Eligibility and Server Responsibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use Discord and this Bot. Server owners/admins are fully responsible for configuring the Bot, setting permissions, and ensuring compliance with Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and all applicable laws. You agree to position the Bot's role correctly in your server's role hierarchy and grant only necessary permissions.
- User Conduct and Prohibited Uses You agree not to use the Bot to:
Violate Discord's Terms of Service, Developer Terms, or Community Guidelines. Harass, abuse, or target users in violation of laws or Discord rules. Circumvent Discord's built-in moderation tools for illegal or harmful purposes. Collect, store, or process user data in ways that violate privacy laws (e.g., GDPR). Use the Bot for spam, raids, or disruption of other servers. Attempt to reverse-engineer, modify, or interfere with the Bot's operation.
Server admins are responsible for moderating the use of commands like /xcom, voting, and keyword lists. 5. Data Collection and Privacy
The Bot stores minimal necessary data (e.g., XCOM status, reasons, vote tallies, keyword lists) in JSON files for functionality. Message forwarding to the xcom-lounge occurs for moderation purposes. No personal data is sold or shared with third parties except as required for Bot operation or legal compliance. By using the Bot, you consent to this data handling within your server. Users in your server should be informed of the Bot's presence and capabilities.
We recommend adding a server rule or privacy notice mentioning the Bot. 6. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
The Bot is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for: Misconfiguration by server admins. Failures in stealth mode or message forwarding. Any disputes between server members or staff regarding XCOM actions. Data loss, server issues, or Discord API changes.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.
- Termination
You may remove the Bot from your server at any time. We reserve the right to refuse service, limit access, or terminate the Bot's availability without notice.
- Modifications to Terms We may update these Terms occasionally. Continued use of the Bot after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. Check this document periodically.
- Governing Law These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the Bot owner resides, without regard to conflict of laws principles.
